If I Had It To Do Over Again
II. Sam. 23:14-17
There is not a person alive that hasn’t said or thought this at some time ---“If I had it to do over again”. There are things we would change.
A Christian has a successful life when he can look back on a situation and say he would do it all over again the same way, because God was in it.
(Tell about David expressing his desire for water from a well, and one of his men, at the risk of his own life, fetched Davide a drink form that well.) David is saying he’d never request such an outrageous thing and unreasonable thing again - if he just had it to do over again.
Judas felt the same way
Peter felt that way
There are things and decisions you do not get to do over again. How can we avoid this type of regret? Let’s look at three men David had under his command.
Adino (delicate or ornament) He was not discouraged
He killed 800 men in a battle --- wasn’t worried about being outnumbered
Christians shouldn’t be discouraged because the odds seem against us Matt. 28:20 “...and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
Paul waked alone in his witnessing. Demas, a dear friend, left Paul when he was most needed
Eleazer (God is helper) He was no quitter
Never give up. II Tim. 6:12” Fight the good fight of faith…”
Eleazer fought so hard and long his hand had to be pried away from his sword. Hold God’s word tight.
Never let anyone make you quit.
Never let one monkey stop the show
Shammah (loss) He stood his ground and God gave a great victory
The prophet Nathan told David “Thou are the man” concerning killing and adultery. Nathan called sin by it’s name, and Christians should too. If it’s sin, avoid it!
All three had the job of putting David on the throne. The Christians joy is to serve the Lord
When we witness, we do our job
Conclusion: Will you regret your life because you didn’t do your job? Accept Christ now and serve. You will never regret it!
